Suncoast Credit Union Matches Donations

Today, United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades, and Okeechobee received a $50,000 donation from the Suncoast Credit Union to support local Covid-19 response efforts in our community. The donation to United Way is part of the Giving Tuesday Challenge and it provides donors a $1 for $1 match on Tuesday, May 5 through Sunday, May 10, up to $50,000. Donors can access the United Way match portal at https://www.unitedwaylee.org/covid-19-response-fund/.

“We are so thankful for the tremendous generosity of Suncoast Credit Union.  The opportunity to offer a match to our community donations will help even more of our residents in need during the pandemic. This will truly improve lives,” said United Way President & CEO Jeannine Joy.

The donation to United Way from Suncoast Credit Union, Florida’s largest credit union, is part of a one million dollar donation to provide economic relief to those affected by COVID-19 in the communities the credit union serves. The recipient criteria focuses on three primary areas of need that correlate to the history and core values of the credit union:

  • Healthcare
  • Hunger
  • Education

“While we are focused on supporting our member’s financially, we feel a moral obligation to support other basic needs during this very challenging time. We admire and are inspired by other charitable organizations who are providing relief through private donations like ours,” said Suncoast Credit Union President & CEO Kevin Johnson.

United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades and Okeechobee, has partnered with the Southwest Florida Community Foundation for the creation of the SWFL Emergency Relief Fund. This relief fund will provide flexible resources to 501(c)3 organizations in our area working with those who are disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. Funds will be released on a rolling basis as fundraising continues throughout all phases of the crisis, making it possible to move resources quickly and adapt to evolving needs in subsequent funding phases.
