Dear United Way Friend

The recent hurricane destruction and now recovery efforts make this the most important campaign in the 20 years of Bonita Bay support. The United Way has been at the forefront of the assistance effort prior to, during and after hurricane Irma. Please see the enclosed “United Way Hurricane Response” information.

In our community the caring spirit of giving is well documented. The most recent example being the community response to the Bonita Bay Employee Relief Fund Immediately following hurricane Irma.

Reaching out with a helping hand to people in need was the motivation behind the first Bonita Bay effort to support United Way. In 1998 resident John “Speed” McClay recognized the opportunity to come together to support the needs of residents right here in Bonita Springs and Lee County. He felt that the United Way network of human service agencies offered a unique opportunity. A United Way Bonita Bay Steering Committee was formed and raised $166,000 the first year.

The campaign has grown contributing $13 million over the past 19 years. Most important agency services have been strengthened locally at the YMCA, Bonita Springs Assistance Office, New Horizons, and Café of Life. Two United Way House locations make finding needed services convenient.

Long after hurricane recovery United Way partner agencies will continue to be the main lifeline to basic human services in Bonita Springs and Lee county. Please consider making your gift today and increasing your gift if you gave last year.
